Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play IS serious learning. Play really is the work of childhood.
-Fred Rogers
Children do not always have the ability to verbally convey what they are thinking and feeling, but still experience confusion, anxiety, depression, interpersonal issues, and transition in their lives. Play is a powerful avenue of expression for children in therapy. Utilizing play therapy, children can begin to make sense of trauma, learn social and coping skills, and be accepted for exactly who they are. My goal with each client is to provide a validating and empathetic space where I can walk with them, side by side and at their own pace, on their therapeutic journey. It is a truly humbling experience to participate in a child's play and growth from session to session. My family systems background allows me to look at the broader context in terms of development, family, friends, school, etc.. Parents, family members, and caregivers are integral influences in their child's life, and so collaboration is a top priority. I also enjoy working with adolescents, families, couples, and parents.
I received my degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Western Michigan University in 2021 and have worked in private practice and in school settings. I have experience working with children (5-12) and adolescents (13-18) dealing with behavioral, academic, and interpersonal issues; as well as children and adolescents experiencing life transitions, attachment difficulties, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and many other concerns. I enjoy working with clients from various cultural, spiritual and religious backgrounds.
